COSTUME DESIGN & PRODUCTION
One of Area 51’s unique selling points is that we have designed and created a vast stock of costumes, using our own skilled in-house teams. The range includes full-size robots, animatronic trolls and creatures, big bobble-head 3D caricatures of rock stars, stunning dancewear and themed costume ensembles for fairy tales and fantasies. Our creations are a key part of our events entertainment service, but we are happy to quote for costume commissions for clients.

PREVIOUS PROJECTS
BLOOMIN’ BRILLIANT!
Have you heard the one about a badger, rabbit and mole walk into a conference centre in the shadow of Westminster Abbey and Big Ben? Sounds far-fetched? Not when Area 51 are in town! And at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster, three larger-than-life anthropomorphic characters held sway in an enchanting forest to enraptured guests.
HAMMING IT UP AT SILVERSTONE
Area 51 helped bring a flavour of the Balearic party scene to Formula 1’s British Grand Prix staged at Silverstone. The company created a special “Ham-former” robot stilts character, a hybrid of the popular A51 Transformer and a Lewis Hamilton bobble head, which caused a storm among race fans
HATS OFF TO J HUS!
UK rapper, J Hus, demanded high-quality production values when he staged his first ever London show. The centre-piece had to be a white 5m-wide bucket, recreating the cover-photo theme from his hit album, Common Sense
FORMULA 1 BOBBLEHEADS
Caption / alt text: Racing ahead – Area 51 sculptured 3D caricature heads for Formula 1 drivers Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Riccardo and Valtteri Bottas. In the vast crowded venues of F1, create a range of eye-catching, identifiable caricatures who will stand out and be greeted rapturously wherever the F1 races are held
SCI-FI GEEKENDER
Area 51 warped space and time to transform a tiny part of North Wales into an intergalactic space base for sci-fi fans, geeks, fantasy fanatics and timelords alike. There was no tightening of the asteroid belt as dark energy
JAX JONES GOES LARGE
Originally commissioned for the video of his hit song ‘Breathe’, Jax Jones’ big bobblehead had to be instantly recognisable. It also needed to be customised for the BRITS Awards with a mic inserted into the head and a speaker system that was worn on a chunky gold chain around his neck. This enabled him to conduct interviews with the world’s press before the evening’s proceedings began.
AREA 51 `AVALANCHE` FOR NEW ALPINE SHOW
A spectacular new Alpine-themed show combining extreme sports and circus skills made its debut at one of the UK’s most prestigious arenas, to huge critical acclaim. The Area 51 production of ‘Alpine Nights’ is the ultimate après-ski experience: ice cool and an off-piste elegance with first class entertainment.
QUACK TEAM FITS THE BILL!
A successful rural country bistro-pub and restaurant required an innovative, high-impact PR campaign to help promote the business in the wake of an expensive kitchen refurbishment. Ten eye-catching duck character costumes were designed and created in-house at Area 51’s workshop.
BLACK SITE – THE MOVIE
It was a case of going underground and tunnel vision as Area 51’s creative crew were summoned to help with the shooting of a much-anticipated supernatural sci-fi thriller movie.
MALDIVES PARADISE IN LONDON
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London…..and the beautiful beaches of the luxurious Maldives…! Area 51 helped bring a touch of paradise to west London as part of a promotional campaign to boost the profile of the retro chic of Finolhu
BUTTONS THE CADBURY COW
Research for chocolate makers Cadbury found that 1 in 3 children didn’t realise milk came from cows. And many didn’t how big they are. So Cadbury asked Area 51 to create a life-size, realistic, animatronic cow, named Buttons. She would show families at London’s Southbank Centre how friendly cows can be and help launch the Cadbury
ED’S UP ON CREATURE CHAOS!
Initial sightings placed the lithe creature in southern Wales where it managed to stow away on board a 747 airliner bound for Florida in the USA but it has also been spotted in Oklahoma and Las Vegas. More recently, additional sightings have been made in Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Chile and Argentina.
THE TROLL
The world’s only walking, talking animatronic Troll, measuring a mighty 9ft tall and 7ft wide. The Troll had to be a movie-quality walking, talking monster, able to move around at live events in forests, fields or on floors. We used the latest in silicone skins and paint effects to ensure he was as real close up as in promo pics.
SWEET KANDI LUSH SAGA
Memories of sunshine doused summer days on the party island of Ibiza aren’t melting into winter obscurity thanks to the sweet success of Hed Kandi’s 2015 season which was hailed a tropical paradise

The future came to London’s Hyde Park when Area 51 teamed up with Cirque Beserk to unleash Mechanika, a surreal cyborg spectacular that stunned A-list celebs like David “The Hoff” Hasselhoff and thousands of astonished members of the public.

THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ
We tasked ourselves to create a series of high quality décor and props to whisk you off down the legendary yellow brick road with the key characters in film-quality costumes. Oz is the perfect theme for private and corporate events and is guaranteed to appeal to all ages. The look is based on the 1939 movie adaptation of L Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book. Its strong visual style provides that essential feel-good factor which event managers seek.
KANDI HEADS – FANTASY FUN IN IBIZA
Once upon a time a legendary name from Ibiza’s clubland royalty needed candy to turn the heads of the party elite and so they called on Area 51 to help. Hed Kandi approached the Warwickshire company to create an elaborate and bespoke collection of stunning set
