Transforming London’s Hyde Park into a winter theme park – The Magical Ice Kingdom entrance at Winter Wonderland.Each festive season London’s Hyde Park becomes a multi-attraction theme park billed as Winter Wonderland. It’s filled with fairground rides, ice rinks, circuses and a host of other attractions. The organisers came to us to create some of the key venues within this seasonal extravaganza, and planning around their brief started early in the year. Essential to its success was visual impact.Open for six weeks it also had to be robust enough to withstand the throughput of thousands of visitors.Area 51’s workshop know that Winter Wonderland is one of the biggest builds we regularly take on.
It required 3000 hours of design, planning, rigging and derigging, with our team working through the night to meet deadlines. The build is not simply a conversion of an existing building – we are erect each destination as we go. After trucking the main components from Warwickshire to London, we created the Magical Ice Kingdom – an immersive walk-through experience, filled to the brim with ice and snow sculptures. Another success was Bar Ice, our Deep Sea Adventure – while our Explorers’ Rest was a stylish outdoor ski-lodge bar where visitors could sit and relax. It was another successful major project completed on time by Area 51.
