AREA 51 helped transform a Middle Eastern country’s national celebration bash into a hi-tech extravaganza, even defeating the unlikeliest of desert downpours!

The United Arab Emirates was celebrating its 41st National Day with a grand slamming 3D special effects show, including all the trimmings, with a huge audience that included royalty at Dubai’s Festival City.

The show was held in a colossal open-air theatre, custom-built especially for this occasion with a solid white stage and backdrop providing the basis for stunning 3D visuals.

It hardly ever rains in Dubai, so it is said, and yet the heavens opened and a torrential downpour lasting several days left the event initially cancelled and rescheduled.

But organisers and performers refused to be beaten by mother nature and worked hard to ensure the re-arranged extravaganza would be even better than previously had been imagined.

The event told a story that traced the history of the U.A.E from its humble origins of desert days and riding camels through the night to the nation’s rise as a world leader of capitalist culture, bridging the gap between East and West.

Its narrative followed the younger generation in their career choices from computers and nano-technology to space travel.

Area 51 aerialists zipped in at this point from the top of the backdrop, as if floating in space and the 51 Transformers entered the stage from left and right and created a huge stir with their performance art.

The Transformers proved a hit with the crowd with many flocking backstage to have their photo taken with the giant mechanical beasts.

Katie Clark, project director for the event said: “The transformers were an absolute hit with the audience of the UAE National Day Show. They provided a dramatic and unexpected highlight of the show and they were the perfect act to bring the projected sequence to life. The transformer team were a pleasure to work with, they were always professional and happily adapted to the change of date with good grace.”
