If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise…as the spirit of Ibiza was reborn in Leicestershire!A herd of bright eyed and bushy tailed Area 51 performers stampeded in woodland close to the famous motor racing circuit at Donington and partied for three days non-stop as part of the third annual Zoo Project Festival which recreates the famous hedonism of the Iberian holiday isle.The Area 51 crew swung from trees and hung out in the undergrowth at the final major event of the festival season to end a summer of hard partying in style among the leafy surrounds of the festival held in the East Midlands in the shadow of the race circuit. Thousands of revellers turned out for the feast of eclectic electronica that featured a pot pourri of artists including Groove Armada, Mr. Scruff and Sasha. The festival was spread across four superlative stages, one of which featured the guys from Secret Party Project.
The 20-plus strong cast of characters from Area 51 turned out in the guise of a tiki tribe and a host of animals while the company’s new blue-tiki sea-tribe also appeared hot on the heels of its debut at Bestival on the Isle of Wight the previous weekend.
Chimps, boxing kangaroos, pandas, owls, dogs, a turtle, a bear, penguins, ostriches, giraffe and even King Kong were un-caged by 51 officials. Extraordinary make up skills were provided by Emma Fay and Sonia Jayne Parra.The Zoo Project Festival has become a leading attraction on the UK festival scene. Famed for its much loved residency on Ibiza and with a huge and loyal following, Zoo Project’s third year was deemed a big success. This year’s Sunday was taken over by the Color Festival in which punters were coated in paint.
