AREA 51 brought its snow-how to London to help overhaul Hyde Park into a stunning winter wonderland as hundreds of thousands of visitors revelled in the ice cool attraction which sported a Charles Dickens theme.

Britain’s biggest annual festive event, Winter Wonderland contains hundreds of rides and attractions, shows, circuses, restaurants cafes and beer gardens, markets and a fairytale grotto.

And Area 51’s design and build experts were once again recruited to spruce up the annual spectacle in the heart of the U.K.’s capital city.

Building on their long-standing involvement with the event from previous years, organisers asked Area 51 to deliver another magical make-over for Winter Wonderland 2019.

On this occasion, the Magical Ice Kingdom sported a “Christmas Carol” theme in mind, 51 staff created an evocative Dickensian London street as an eight-metre-tall frontage with welcoming archway leading inside the M.I.K. itself. Other impressive installations took place at Bar Ice in the park.

A multitude of other props and pieces were integrated for intelligent lighting and large neon signage to complete the look and a team of 25 members of staff spent two weeks building the set on site before the show opened and ran for xi weeks between November and January.

With British weather notoriously difficult to predict, Area 51 also had to include an impressive 18 tonnes of ballast hidden behind the scenic elements for public safety.
