A galaxy of Area 51 performers detonated an entertainment supernova to help make a major sci fi festival a cosmic success!

The extensive 40-strong Area 51 team descended on a North Wales holiday park for the fifth annual Sci-Fi Weekender and the kooky troupe containing fauns, alien monsters, dark elves, steampunk dancers, robots, a fakir, circus freaks, Tiki tribesmen, a Victorian strongman and much more, stunned the audience with a series of stellar shows.

Held at the Hafan Y Mor holiday village in Pwllheli on the Lleyn Peninsula, the event was a geek utopia which drew together many iconic aspects of the science fiction genre at one location including Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Blake’s 7, the Hobbit and many others as fans mingled with well-known faces, novelists, comic legends and an array of performers.

The convention was jam packed with a wide array of events to satisfy even the geekiest of geeks with big name interviews, Q&A sessions, movie screenings, comic workshops, video gaming, book readings, live music and an avalanche of performance art from the Area 51 crew.

Among the guest stars appearing at the event were Lewis McLeod, the voice of Sebulba from ‘Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace’ and legendary British comic and magazine editor and author Dez Skinn plus Royd Tolkien, the great-grandson of author J.R. Tokien.

The convention’s opening ceremony was given an injection of sci-fi glamour when Area 51’s in-house dancers performed a brand-new show choreographed by head dancer Beth Sykess and featuring the girls wearing dark elf costumes for a Lord Of The Rings theme.

Area 51’s celebrated Caravan of Lost Souls, led by the inimitable Igor Rasputin, followed and Area 51 provided the cabaret entertainment in the Imaginarium featuring the inimitable Professor Elemental, Victorian strongman The Mighty Moustache, magician Caspian and Ian Harvey Stone, the empathist who stepped in at the 12th hour to wow those present.

Caspian performed some off-stage magic when he turned into emergency driver and managed to collect Professor Elemental from the airport before making a cross country dash to get him to Pwllheli with just minutes to spare.

Area 51’s acclaimed iGlobot and iGlogirls performed on stage as did the company’s Transformer robots
