NIGHT FEVER IN PARADISE

Area 51 revolutionised Christmas in paradise by taking a riot of retro revelry out to ritzy Reethi Rah, the Indian Ocean resort where transcendent luxury revitalises the soul. A substantial crew of gilt-edged performers jetted out to The Maldives to entertain guests for a fortnight, taking in Christmas, New Year and the Russian Orthodox holidays. And the emphasis was placed on retro themes as the Area 51 contingent staged two separate productions.

The opening show was a fun-filled affair, taking in both the late ‘60s and ‘70s. A quite brilliant Austin Powers extravaganza, it featured one of the world’s leading lookalikes of the fab and groovy Mike Myers character together with Area 51’s actor Luke D’Silva taking on the role of Dr. Evil; the hilarious duo being accompanied by a group of go-go girls and a Vanessa Kensington character.

A spectacular 70s-styled Saturday Night Fever show that even included roller skating dancers as well as an adroit choreographed dance display was an equally impressive production that also featured the eye catching routine of Valerie Murzak who excelled as a contortionist atop of a giant glitter ball.

And helping to make Christmas even more special for the young guests at the One & Only resort was 51’s Adam Colclough who portrayed Will Ferrell’s celebrated role as Buddy in the 2003 movie Elf with aplomb. He joined Santa and Mrs. Claus on Christmas Day after they arrived by jet ski rather than traditional sleigh transportation and kept youngsters entertained throughout the period.
