Legendary actor Brian Blessed and Area 51 teamed up to create a sci-fi supernova at one of Europe’s biggest and best events for followers of all things fantasy and futurist!

The seventh annual Sci Fi Weekender was hailed as the best yet after a galaxy of stars and performers shone to stun the audience after teleporting into North Wales.

With Area 51 more closely involved in the event than ever before, and with a heavyweight cast of guests on display, the Hafan Y Mor camp in Pwllheli was transformed into an inter-galactic outpost as geeks, nerds, and sci-fi enthusiasts made a beeline for the Lleyn Peninsula to take part in what was the most exciting in the series of the SFW so far.

Star Trek: Voyager actor Garrett Wang was one of the main star attractions alongside Brian Blessed while Area 51 dispatched a confederacy of cosmic scene-stealing performers.

Other star attractions included Outlander stars Stephen Walters and Grant O’Rourke plus Kerr Logan from Game Of Thrones and Star Wars VII The Force Awakens actor Miltos Yerolemou. From TV’s legendary Doctor Who and Torchwood shows, there were Eve Myles and Ellis George appearing and countless other name authors, artists, actors, actresses and sci-fi bigwigs.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop performed and there was even a prog rock mini festival housed within the event featuring rock giants like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Focus, Caravan and the god of hellfire himself, the Crazy World Of Arthur Brown.

Tabitha Lyons, one of the world’s best known and most respected cosplay stars, headed up a tidal wave of the performance art which swept through the event and her company Artyfakes gave a demonstration of their costume making prowess at the Pwllheli event.

Sci-fi author and all-round tech wizard, Luiz Villazon staged a hugely successful Jedi drone fighting activities throughout the weekend and a retro computer museum showcasing 50 years of gaming culture also proved popular with those attending.

Area 51 supplied numerous performers who mucked in as both daytime walkabout characters and on-stage artists along with fellow fire and dance acts. The company once against hosted the Imaginarium and this featured magician Barrington Powell and Graham Maxwell who wowed those present with his amazing bubbles act!

The Imaginarium was hosted by SFW regular Professor Elemental, the hip hop star who also conducted the on-stage interview with the sci-fi colossus that is Brian Blessed.

Area 51 decor team members were also hard at work, revamping the SFW “Strip Club” where a series of conic masterclasses were held featuring Glenn Fabry, Simon Bisley, William Simpson, Clint Langley, Dylan Teague, Boo Clark, Simon Davis and Victor Wright.

SFW7 was also notable for hosting an exclusive showing of the brand new British sci-fi horror indie film “Pandorica” which stars Area 51 actor and performer Luka da Silva. The audience loved the film and since the weekender it has also been successfully shown at other comic conventions.
