Area 51 hoisted the sails, cast aside any lily-livered swabs in their way and swash-buckled into action to storm one of the UK’s most happening festivals off the south coast.
A crew of 45 buccaneers boarded the so-called ‘Shady Lady’ pirate ship stage at Bestival 2016 and took no prisoners with a bawdy weekend of manic mayhem and merry-making that only true legends are made of.
Area 51’s now annual pilgrimage across The Solent to the Isle of Wight was once again hailed a major success as performers banded together day and night over four days of revelry inside the grounds of the Robin Hill Country Park near Arreton in Downend on the island.
After organisers surprisingly dropped the popular Port Stage from previous years, the Area 51 crew spent their time at the 2016 event spread over a number of locations including the pirate stage and also the Big Top where D&B maestros Hospitality Records had pitched their tent of bacchanal high jinks.
And as in previous years, the 51 team came into their own when starring in the eye-catching daytime and night-time parades on site. This year new adapted alien costumed characters on stilts with stunning LED FX turned heads as they prowled around. Others gave expert displays of fire performances.
For the first time, Area 51 performers joined Hospitality Records on the Big Top stage for the closing night of the festival for a two-hour show that ended the event on an epic high to a tumultuous reception from punters.
This year’s Bestival starred the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Sean Paul, The Cure, The Human League, Major Lazer and Hot Chip among a star-studded cast of artists.
