SCI-FI IN THE CITY

AREA 51 ASSIST LAUNCHING A STELLAR NEW CHAPTER FOR LEADING UK CONVENTION

Every great adventure deserves a sequel.

After almost a decade of extraordinary cosmic success in North Wales, Sci-Fi Weekender boldly expanded its universe with the launch of a new urban edition staged at the iconic O2 Academy in Sheffield, the Steel City.

Once again, Area 51 was right at the epicentre of the action.

Working alongside the organisers, the company helped transform the Yorkshire venue into a vibrant playground for science fiction fans, fantasy, gaming, comics, cosplay and immersive entertainment, proving that the magic of this event could thrive just as spectacularly in a city-centre setting as it had done in the remote location of North Wales.

A CONVENTION EVOLVES

Moving over to Sheffield wasn’t about replacing the much-loved North Wales event which was successfully staged at Hafan y Môr.

Indeed, it was about expanding the brand, opening up its universe and introducing new worlds.

The new city format opened the doors to yet more new fans and created an exciting springboard before moving once more to a larger holiday park destination.

The result was a fresh new chapter that retained everything the audiences loved about Sci-Fi Weekender while introducing the energy and atmosphere of a major city venue.

TAKING THE GALAXY TO YORKSHIRE

Area 51 once again deployed a remarkable team of immersive performers to bring the popular convention to life.

Throughout the spring weekend, fantasy characters, beautifully costumed performers, stilt walkers and dancers animated every corner of the venue, ensuring there was always something extraordinary waiting to be discovered around the next turn.

Rather than existing simply as entertainment between major events, the Area 51 crew members became part of the convention itself, creating countless spontaneous interactions, memorable photographs and moments of pure escapism for visitors of every age.

From performing to even hosting events on stage, Area 51 personnel were there to welcome everyone present.

A NEW HOME, THE SAME IMAGINATION
