SCISSOR SISTERS: THE REUNION

AREA 51 RETURNS TO THE ROAD WITH ONE OF POP’S MOST FLAMBOYANT LIVE BANDS!

It’s true that some creative partnerships are simply too RED HOT to leave behind.

After years of friendship, unforgettable productions and spectacular live collaborations, the good folk at Area 51 were absolutely thrilled when Scissor Sisters invited them back to become part of the band’s hugely-anticipated reunion celebrations in 2026.

The idea for the reunion began two years ago – an occasion that marked the 20th anniversary of Scissor Sisters’ groundbreaking self-titled debut album which was one of the UK’s biggest-selling records of the 21st century.

The get-together saw the band returning to arenas across the UK and Ireland before they took the spectacular live show on the road to major festivals throughout Europe in 2026.

For Area 51, this wasn’t simply just another commission.

It was the continuation of a creative friendship that has flourished for decades.

BACK WHERE THEY BELONG

Scissor Sisters burst onto the international pop scene with an explosive and fearless combination of disco, rock, electronic dance, pop and unapologetic theatricality.

From their breakthrough cover of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb through to era-defining hits including Take Your Mama, Filthy/Gorgeous, Laura, Fire with Fire, Only the Horses and the Elton John co-written chart topper, I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, the band worked hard to build a reputation as one of the world’s fiercest and greatest live acts.

The debut album became the UK’s biggest seller in 2004, earning them multiple Brit Awards and helping to redefine queer representation within mainstream pop, proving that originality, inclusivity and fearless creativity can sit comfortably at the very top of the charts.

A TRIUMPHANT RETURN

When the reunion was announced, demand proved phenomenal.

Arena after arena sold out as audiences flocked to see Scissor Sisters return after more than a decade away from the stage together.

Performances at venues including The O2 in London, Co-op Live in Manchester, OVO Hydro Glasgow, First Direct Arena Leeds, Utilita Arena Birmingham, Motorpoint Area Nottingham, SSE Arena Belfast, Utilita Arena Cardiff and t 3Arena Dublin demonstrated the band had lost none of their amazing appeal.

Playing to audiences of well over 15,000 people each night, the reunion became one of the year’s most celebrated live music events.

GO-GO GORILLA GO!

The show opened in unforgettable fashion.

As anticipation reached fever pitch, audiences were greeted by one of Area 51’s spectacular creations – a giant gorilla character that stomped on to the stage to launch proceedings with exactly the kind of larger-than-life theatrical flourish that has become synonymous with both Area 51 and Scissor Sisters.

The gorilla immediately set the tone.

This wasn’t just another concert.

What fans were seeing was a full-scale theatrical event.

THE RETURN OF THE HAIR BABIES

As the evening built towards its spectacular finale, audiences were treated to the return of one of Scissor Sisters’ most beloved visual creations.

The gloriously outrageous Hair Babies – oversized and chichi puppet character originally created by the legendary Jim Henson’s Creature Shop for the band’s iconic 2005 Brit Awards opening performance of Take Your Mama – made a triumphant and updated return.

People gasped as they saw giant Muppets appear before their eyes!

Reimagined for a new generation of audiences, the wonderfully surreal characters once again stole the spotlight, adding colour, humour and glorious chaos to the closing moments of the show.

Alongside them came an ensemble of Area 51 performers, transforming the gig climax into an unforgettable explosion of music, theatre and pure spectacle.

ICONS OF THE FUTURE

Also joining in were Area 51’s instantly recognisable TV Heads.

Dressed in their immaculate black suits, white shirts and ties, these mysterious performers replace conventional heads with television screens capable of displaying bespoke video content tailored to each production.

Part Men In Black, part futuristic performance artists and entirely unforgettable, the TV Heads have become one of Area 51’s signature creations.

Their including during the finale added another striking visual dimension to an already spectacular production.

A FEW SURPRISES ALONG THE WAY

The reunion tour delivered plenty of unexpected moments.

At London’s O2 Arena, legendary actor, Sir Ian McKelen delighted the crowd with a surprise appearance during the performance of “Invisible Light”, reprising the spoken-word narration that has become one of the band’s most memorable recordings.

Elsewhere, Area 51 performers continued to weave theatrical moments throughout the show, ensuring every gig retained the playful unpredictability that has always defined the partnership between the company and the band.

THE STORY CONTINUES

The success of the reunion led to another invitation.

Throughout 2026, Area 51 has once again joined forces with Scissor Sisters as the band continues its return on major festival stages across the UK and Europe, taking the production to huge audiences at prestigious events including Hyde Park and a host of leading summer events.

As always, the production continues to evolve, with subtle refinements, fresh ideas and new surprises ensuring that every performance remains as vibrant and exciting as the last.

BUILT ON TRUST, POWERED BY CREATIVITY

There are many companies capable of building props.

There are many capable of making costumes.

Very few, however, become trusted creative partners for internationally acclaimed artists over such a long period of time.

Area 51’s enduring relationship with Scissor Sisters is built on far more than foam, fabric and spectacular stage craft.

It’s built on friendship, trust, shared imagination and a mutual belief that live gigs should dazzle, challenge and wow those watching.

Long may that partnership continue.
