QUACK TEAM FITS THE BILL!

A successful rural country bistro-pub and restaurant required an innovative, high-impact PR campaign to help promote the business in the wake of an expensive kitchen refurbishment. Ten eye-catching duck character costumes were designed and created in-house at Area 51’s workshop. Each character consisted of an over-sized duck head accompanying yellow rain mac coats and rubber boots together with other garments. Area 51 performers donned the costumes and turned up at ‘flash mob’ type events unexpectedly throughout Oxfordshire to draw attention to the revamped Muddy Duck at Hethe, near Bicester.

THE BRIEF:

A successful rural country bistro-pub and restaurant required an innovative, high-impact PR campaign to help promote the business in the wake of an expensive kitchen refurbishment.

THE BUILD:

Ten eye-catching duck character costumes were designed and created in-house at Area 51’s workshop.

Each character consisted of an over-sized duck head accompanying yellow rain mac coats and rubber boots together with other garments.

Area 51 performers donned the costumes and turned up at ‘flash mob’ type events unexpectedly throughout Oxfordshire to draw attention to the revamped Muddy Duck at Hethe, near Bicester.

Initially acting mysteriously, the ‘ducks’ eventually took out promo literature from beneath their wings to hand out to members of the public.

The cards entitled holders to enter into a special prize draw  – the  “Golden Egg random acts of kindness” scheme – when booking a table for dinner at The Muddy Duck and prizes on offer included anything from a car valet to an iPod Mini and a free meal at the pub for every month of the year.
