Area 51’s largest ever crew set sail for a new summer of love as they partied hard at the award-winning Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
Four days and four nights of ship-shape revelry rocked the enormously popular bash at the Robin Hill Country Park which was subsequently hailed as “Best Major Festival” at the 2015 UK Festival Awards.
Area 51’s now annual pilgrimage across the Solent was the messiest and most fun yet as the event opted for a tie-dyed “Summer Of Love” theme and thousands of hedonistic revellers turned to garish retro hippie flavours to prove all you really do need is love.
Once again, the crew boarded the giant ship located in the dance arena, The Port stage. The huge life-sized vessel of excess featured huge funnels and naughty nautical mayhem was unleashed via the 51 team of dancers, performance artists and a wide range of characters that reflected both the hippie and naval atmosphere.
It was a sizeable slice of psychedelic saturnalia and began aptly in bizarre fashion when gusts of high winds disrupted Area 51’s launch of hundreds of balloons from The Port, whisking them in the wrong direction and sending crew scurrying to retrieve them!
As well as the usual costumed parade, the 51 posse starred in the festival’s first night-time procession and the company debuted a new range of LED-lit elf warrior girl costumes. The company designed and manufactured a completely new range of costumes for the four-day event.
