DC Fontana: art & soul! DC Fontana: art & soul! Claire Curtis

Turned-on music to shake your hips & pluck your heartstrings… DC Fontana ride the cusp between scenes & dreams to produce a genre-bustin' sound!

Fronted by Mancunian singer Louise Turner and driven by founding member & song-writer Mark Mortimer, the group's star is in its ascent following the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album 'Six Against Eight' and the mind-melting follow-up 'Meshkalina EP.'

Fellow DC song-writer Scott Riley was once a member of Spacemen 3 off-shoot Spectrum and together with producer Donald Ross Skinner (Julian Cope, Salad, Prolapse, Cud etc) at the helm, the group delivered the kitchen sink drama that is 'Six Against Eight' after camping inside Liverpool's famous Parr Street Studios where they had been invited to record by legendary Echo & The Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant, a fan of the group.

Here they came up with a fascinating collection of mesmerising tunes: a sonic stew of eclectic ingredients. Both the album & its follow up 'Meshkalina' were acclaimed by journalists and public alike for the group's utterly groovy & diverse sound steeped in amazing musicianship & compelling studio production: tunes that sounds as good as the old while remaining as forward-thinking as the new....

Signed to DCTone Records, the DCs' releases combine with allegorical short films to prove the group is much more than just fine songwriters & musicians & they can be as excitingly unpredictable on stage as they are in the studio.

DC Fontana's music and videos have been described as "art & soul" and it's easy to see why: their organic blissed out grooves & other-worldly-weirdness are entwined together with a catchy 60s pop sensibility as the group expands it horizons & reaches for the end of the rainbow.

Blending elements of psychedelia, jazz, R&B and folk, DC Fontana are as urban-cool as Harry Palmer & as pagan & hallucinatory as Lord Summerisle...

The most recent release from the group is the continental chic of 'La Contessa,' an album sung mostly in French & Italian to please the group's growing legion of followers in Europe & DC Fontana are currently finishing work on a new EP to be released in June 2012.

The 2012 incarnation of the group also features Spanish chanteuse Miri May with Louise Turner, who sang on Elbow's Mercury Prize-winning record 'The Seldom Seen Kid' fronting the band.
